BEARS SUSPEND DT HARRIS FOR BREAKING TEAM RULE
CHICAGO — The Bears suspended defensive tackle Tommie Harris for Sunday’s game against the Lions.
Coach Lovie Smith said Thursday that Harris broke a team rule, but he didn’t immediately explain what it was.
“He’ll continue to rehab but won’t practice with the football team this week,” Smith said. “Monday, he’ll be back with the team, hopefully ready to go and I’ll kind of go from there.”
Harris didn’t play Sunday against the Eagles due to a knee injury.
Eagles running back Westbrook improving
PHILADELPHIA — Eagles running back Brian Westbrook practiced in a limited fashion after sitting out last week with an ankle injury suffered in a Week 3 win over Pittsburgh, but his coaches were encouraged with his progress.
“He looked better,” said offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, who added, “He’s day to day, and we’ll see.”
Tight end L.J. Smith has returned from a back injury that kept him out last week against Chicago, and receiver Kevin Curtis, who has not played since having surgery for a sports hernia during the preseason, continues to improve.
The Eagles host Washington on Sunday.
Footnotes.
The Redskins likely will be without cornerback Shawn Springs (calf) and defensive end Jason Taylor for Sunday’s game. Taylor underwent emergency surgery to drain blood near his ankle last week.
• Saints defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis left practice to have his right knee examined.
• The Vikings will probably be without middle linebacker E.J. Henderson (toes) on Monday night against the Saints.
• Bills receiver Lee Evans signed a four-year, $37.25 million contract extension that locks him up through 2012. The Associated Press
