Snow was falling in the mountains Saturday night, marking a wet, chilly end to two weeks of sunny weather.
Traffic alerts were posted on U.S. 550 for Coal Bank and Molas passes and U.S. 34 was closed along Trail Ridge Road because of snow and ice.
The Pacific storm front now moving into western Colorado is expected to bring heavy snow to the mountains throughout the weekend.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the western mountains above 9,000 feet through tonight.
Forecasters say from 8 to 18 inches of snow could fall.
When the front reaches Denver late today, it is expected to drop temperatures into the low 40s, with a 60 percent chance of rain.
