You could call it the silver anniversary for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Philadelphia Phillies.

It has been 25 years since the last time these two teams played each other for the right to represent the National League in the World Series.

On Thursday in Philadelphia, the teams will meet for the fourth time in the League Championship Series since it began in 1969.

Back in 1983, the Phillies defeated the Dodgers three games to one. The Dodgers won the other two series 3-1 in 1977 and ’78.

In an ominous sign for both, the winner of those three matchups lost in the World Series: the Phillies to Baltimore and the Dodgers twice to the Yankees.

The series appears pretty even, despite the fact that the Phillies (92-70) won eight more games than the Dodgers this season.

The teams played eight times this season (all in August), each sweeping four games at home. Both finished the regular season with 19-8 records to surge into the playoffs.
