Just when you think you have it all figured out . . .
Clinton Portis went up against Philadelphia’s top-ranked run defense on Sunday — you know, the same “D” that shut down Chicago’s Matt Forte in Week 4 — and the Portis goes for 145 yards and a TD. How does that happen?
Roddy White, the main target on Atlanta’s 26th-ranked passing offense, goes for 132 yards and a touchdown on eight catches on the road at Green Bay.
Brandon Marshall facing a Tampa Bay team that is 12th against the run and 21st against the pass? How about three catches for 25 yards?
And let’s not forget Marion Barber against Cincinnati’s 28th-ranked run defense. Natty Dread gets 84 yards and no touchdowns, and in most leagues, he scores less than Le’Ron “Who is Le’That?” McClain (a free agent in more than 50 percent of leagues).
You have to love statistics. OK, you don’t, but you do have to live with them until Week 6.
Life looks rosy in Week 6 if you have Adrian Peterson, Portis, Ronnie Brown, Forte, Jason Campbell or Aaron Rodgers. Things are looking thorny for Steve Slaton, Joseph Addai, Michael Turner, Philip Rivers and Jamal Lewis.
