Hikers in Boulder have two new trails to enjoy: Flat Irons Vista and the wheelchair-accessible Prairie Vista Trail.

Both are based from the Flatirons Vista Trailhead south of Boulder County Road 128 on Colorado 93.

The loop trails offer wide vistas with mountain backdrops, native grasslands and ponderosa pine woodlands.

Maps and trail information are available at or by calling 303-441-3440.

The city of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks Department has set aside more than 45,000 acres and 130 miles of trails to view wildlife habitat, geologic features and greenways in its scenic region.

Sales taxes fund the purchases, including the 0.40 percent levy adopted in 1967, when Boulder became the first city in the country to earmark a tax source to acquire park space. Voters approved an additional 0.33 percent tax to augment the effort in 1989.
