HOUSTON — A Colombian right-wing paramilitary member has pleaded guilty in the U.S. to attempting to acquire anti-aircraft missiles, grenade launchers and other powerful weapons in exchange for $25 million worth of cocaine.
Diego Alberto Ruiz Arroyave pleaded guilty Monday in federal court in Houston to conspiring to provide material support and resources to the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, or AUC. The U.S. has listed the group as a terrorist organization.
Ruiz faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced on Jan. 8. He and 14 others were nabbed in May and extradited from Colombia.
