Kyle Cumiskey is going to Cleveland, but he will not take regrets with him over his performance at Avalanche training camp.

From the accounts of his coaches and teammates, Cumiskey acquitted himself well at camp, but the young defenseman was caught in a numbers game and was sent Monday to the Avs’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters.

The Avs have seven veteran defensemen already on the roster, which made it a longshot for Cumiskey to survive the final cuts.

Cumiskey played three games in the preseason, with no points and a minus-1. He came to camp with about 15 pounds of added muscle.

Veteran Daniel Tjarnqvist will be the Avs’ seventh defenseman to start the season. The Avs have 26 players on the preseason roster and must get down to 23 by Wednesday.

Tickets still available.

Hundreds of tickets remain unsold for Thursday’s regular-season opener at the Pepsi Center against the Boston Bruins.

If the Avs fail to sell out the season opener, it would be the first time in team history.
