A man committed to the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo after randomly shooting an Englewood Kmart employee in 2006 died following surgery last week, authorities say.

Anthony Wade Law, 41, was pronounced dead after experiencing complications after surgery at St. Mary Corwin Hospital in Pueblo, Pueblo County Coroner James Krammer said today.

“He had surgery and died after surgery,” Krammer said. “Everything appears to be medical.”

An official cause of death has not yet been determined, but it appears he died of natural causes, Krammer said. He said he does not know why Law was having surgery.

Law was found not guilty by reason of insanity in March for the June 2006 fatal shooting of Kmart employee Kathy DeBell, 43, and wounding of customer Claudia Nunez, 30, outside the Kmart at 200 W. Belleview Ave. in Englewood.
