This season’s snow sports are a bit behind last year’s, but Colorado resorts are working to catch up.

Last year, Arapahoe Basin opened Oct. 10, the first ski and snowboard area to welcome guests. This year, A-Basin just started making snow on Sunday.

Loveland Ski Area also started making snow this weekend, its website reported.

“We were able to blow snow on Saturday and Sunday,” the website said, “and the weather forecast is looking promising for the next week.”

At 11:30 p.m. Sunday, A-Basin fired up its snow guns, Leigh Hierholzer, director of marketing and communications said in a news release.

“All 18 snow guns ran from midway to the base area” until Monday morning, she said. They’ll continue today, weather permitting.

She added: “The race is on to be the first ski area to open in North America. A-Basin has held the title for the past two years. Game on.”
