A 17-year-old Aguilar girl was thrown from an SUV and killed, and a 1-year-old girl was seriously injured in a one-vehicle rollover on Interstate 25 Friday morning in southern Colorado, officials say.

Holly Ringo, the aunt of the injured baby, was pronounced dead in the accident, said Trooper Gilbert Mares of the Colorado State Patrol.

One-year-old Jazlyn Gandomcar was flown by helicopter to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs in serious condition after the 7:25 a.m. accident, Mares said.

Ringo was driving a blue 2005 Dodge sport utility vehicle south on I-25 about 13 miles north of Trinidad when she lost control of the vehicle and drove into the median, Mares said.

The SUV rolled 1½ times and landed on its hood in the northbound lanes, he said. Ringo was thrown from the vehicle and landed on the highway, he said. She was not wearing a seat belt.

The child was properly secured in a child seat but sustained serious injuries, Mares said.

It is unclear what caused the accident.
