GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo.—EBags co-founder Jon Nordmark is stepping down as chief executive officer after a 10-year tenure at the online luggage and handbag retailer.

The Greenwood Village-based company has 200 employees, including 120 in the Denver area.

Nordmark said Friday the company is close to choosing his successor. He said he will remain on eBags’ board of directors and serve as a consultant for at least two years while pursuing Internet-marketing ventures.

He said orders have slowed in the past six weeks amid the economic downturn but that eBags may be helped by the fact that it ships merchandise directly to customers from manufacturers, thus minimizing administrative and inventory costs.
