SAN ANTONIO — South Africa’s Rory Sabbatini birdied the final hole for a 7-under-par 63 and a one-stroke lead over Zach Johnson on Saturday in the Texas Open.
Sabbatini, a four-time tour winner who lives in Southlake outside Dallas, had an eagle and four birdies for a back-nine 29 on the La Cantera Golf Club’s Resort Course. Winless since the 2007 Colonial in Fort Worth, he had a 14-under 196 total.
Johnson, the 2007 Masters champion, shot a bogey-free 62, playing the front nine in 5-under 30. He has three PGA Tour victories.
Tim Wilkinson (63), Tim Herron (67) and second-round leader Chris Stroud (69) were 11-under, and Mark Wilson (66), Joe Ogilvie (67), Michael H. Thompson (67), Jeff Overton (67) and Tim Petrovic (68) followed at 10-under.
South Korea’s Kim leads Challenge
DANVILLE, Calif. — South Korea’s In-Kyung Kim remained in position for her first LPGA Tour victory, shooting a 3-under 69 in windy conditions to take a one-stroke lead over Angela Stanford in the Longs Drugs Challenge.
LPGA Championship winner Yani Tseng (70) and Mollie Fankhauser (73) were tied for third at 6-under, and Kristy McPherson (71) was 5-under. Lorena Ochoa, a seven-time winner on the tour this year, shot a 74 to fall to 4-under.
Price makes move at Senior Players
TIMONIUM, Md. — Nick Price moved into position for his first win on the Champions Tour, shooting a bogey-free 66 to take a one-shot lead over D.A. Weibring after three rounds of the Senior Players Championship.
Schwartzel leads Madrid Masters.
Argentina’s Ricardo Gonzalez shot a 9-under 62 to trail South Africa’s Charl Schwartzel by one stroke after the third round of the Madrid Masters in Spain.
