Travelers in Golden can relax at the sight of an army of fire crews and equipment rushing to an “emergency” this afternoon along the Colorado Highway 58 South Frontage Road west of McIntyre Street.

Motorists on nearby Interstate 70 and Colorado Highway 93 also might see some of the training between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., fire officials said.

West Metro Fire Rescue is conducting the mock highway crash scene to train firefighters and other emergency responders from five agencies in the region.

The drill will include a car fire and teen-age “victims” from numerous car crashes.

The pretend victims are students from Warren Tech’s new fire science program at Red Rocks Community College.
