BERTHOUD, Colo.—A northern Colorado reservoir and pipeline project that would serve 15 municipalities and agencies could be delayed a year while the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers considers issuing a permit, a regional water district says.
More study may be needed for the Northern Integrated Supply Project, said Brian Werner, spokesman for the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District.
The project calls for drawing water from the Cache la Poudre River for a reservoir north of Fort Collins and another east of Ault, and at an estimated cost of up to $450 million. Advocates say it’s needed to keep farms from drying up because of increasing population.
Plans called for design from 2009-2011 and construction from 2011-2015, Werner said.
“The corps is still reading all the comments from public meetings it conducted earlier this year, and they may come back to say this area needs more study, or more work is needed in this area,” Werner said.
A Corps decision could come next year, he said.
