A fire of undetermined origin destroyed half of a duplex in Wheat Ridge this afternoon.
The fire at 6816 W. 38th Ave., near the intersection of Pierce Street, broke out around 1 p.m., authorities said. One of the two residents of the duplex was treated for minor smoke inhalation.
Authorities said only two people lived in the unit and had evacuated by the time fire trucks arrived. No cause has been determined, although authorities said a fire in the fireplace had been burning prior to the emergency call. The cause will be investigated.
