BEAVER, W.Va.—It’s the mining industry’s turn to speak out about proposed rules that would expand drug testing.
The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the rules Tuesday.
Among other things, MSHA is proposing to prohibit the possession of drugs and alcohol at coal, copper, gold and other types of underground mines. The agency also wants to require drug testing for job applicants and random testing for active miners.
The MSHA plans to take testimony from sites in Beaver, W.Va.; Washington, D.C.; Pittsburgh; Englewood, Colo.; Birmingham, Ala.; Madisonville, Ky.; and Price, Utah.
