DENVER—Casey MacMaster won the No. 1 singles title at the Class 5A state tournament on Saturday with help from his strong serve and solid net game.
The junior from Rocky Mountain beat Loveland’s Alex Clinkenbeard 6-2, 6-4, scoring 31 first-serve points and 12 consecutive aces. MacMaster, whose serve has been clocked at 130 mph, won the first four games and broke serve twice.
Cherry Creek won its 35th team title and its eighth straight with help from singles players Taylor Sargent and Connor Macey.
Sargent beat George Washington’s Simon Hegelund 6-4, 6-2 and Macey, a senior, beat Regis’ Mark Miller 6-3, 6-1.
Regis finished second and George Washington placed third.
