A 71-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car while crossing East Florida Avenue in Arapahoe County last night, authorities say.

Fatima Elaourabu of Denver was pronounced dead at the scene near the intersection of East Florida and Willow Street following the 7:35 p.m. accident, said Trooper Gilbert Mares, spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol.

Robert A. Roth, 44, left his green 1995 Honda Accord and walked to a nearby apartment complex before he returned to the scene of the accident on his own, Mares said.

No charges have been filed, he said. The accident is still under investigation, he said.

Roth was driving east on East Florida Avenue in the right lane when Elaourabu crossed in a southeasterly direction in a dimly lit area where there was no crosswalk, Mares said.

The Honda struck the woman and threw her onto the right side side of the road, Mares said.

Roth, of Denver, was not injured in the crash.

Authorities do not believe he was using drugs or alcohol, and he was not speeding.
