DENVER—A team of Kenyans swept the men’s race in the Denver Marathon on a warm Sunday with Jynocel Basweti posting a winning time of 2 hours, 22 minutes, 13 seconds.
Richard Kimeli took second place with a time of 2:23:54 and Jonathan Ndambuki, last year’s winner, took third in 2:24:53.
Romania’s Nuta Olaru won the women’s race in 2:42:18. Judy Kiplimo from Kenya came in second at 2:45:11 and Patty Rogers from Lakewood, Colo., took third in 2:54:27.
The race attracted nearly 8,000 runners from 13 countries and 46 states. The marathon raised some $200,000 for charities.
The race through the Mile High City was flat and was certified by USA Track & Field as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.
