BOULDER, Colo.—A man has been found dead amid the Flatirons rock formations west of Boulder, but the coroner says no foul play is suspected.

Authorities identified the man Sunday as 47-year-old Edward J. Thompson of Aurora. The cause of death hasn’t been determined.

A hiker reported the body at about 4 p.m. Saturday in a gully between two of the towering Flatirons, which are popular with climbers and hikers.

Boulder County sheriff’s deputies are investigating.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Sue Cullen says no climbing gear was found with the body but investigators haven’t ruled out the possibility that Thompson had been climbing.
