CARSON, Calif. — Conor Casey scored on a penalty kick in the 85th minute Sunday to give the Rapids a 2-1 victory over Chivas USA.
Colin Clark also scored for the Rapids (11-14-4), who broke a two-game losing streak and moved within two points of the eighth and final playoff spot in the MLS’ Western Division with one game remaining.
Jonathan Bornstein scored for Chivas USA (12-11-6), which had its four-game winning streak snapped.
Casey scored his 10th goal of the season after Chivas USA’s Shavar Thomas fouled Omar Cummings in the penalty area. Casey’s penalty kick hit inside the base of the right post and ricocheted behind goalkeeper Dan Kennedy.
Kennedy kept Colorado from moving ahead when he stopped Tom McManus’ penalty kick in the 57th minute. But Clark’s 7-yard header off Cummings’ crossing pass gave the Rapids a 1-0 lead in the 67th.
