MORGAN, Utah — The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office says this golf cart had more under the hood than it needed to putter down the fairway.

It had enough horsepower to elude deputies during a chase.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Peay said the driver took the cart into an alfalfa field, where it jumped irrigation ditches during the chase.

Peay said the cart wasn’t faster than sheriff’s cruisers, but deputies couldn’t get through the ditches that the cart cleared.

The chase started when the cart was spotted spinning out in a city park Aug. 16, Peay said. The driver got away, but officers recognized him and arrested him the next day at his grandmother’s house.

Peay said he suspects the cart was fitted with a car engine instead of the original electric motor. He said the hot-rod golf cart’s whereabouts are still unknown.
