GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—An arrest affidavit indicates an Iraq war veteran suspected in a hit-and-run crash that killed a Grand Junction woman told police he drank five beers earlier that day.
Twenty-five-year-old Brandon A. Walton is being held in the Mesa County jail on $25,000 bond on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, hit-and-run, vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.
Police say Walton was driving a Ford F150 pickup Sunday when he ran a red light and crashed into a Nissan.
The crash killed 28-year-old Ashley Chapman of Grand Junction and sent three 11-year-old boys to hospitals. Their conditions are unknown.
The affidavit says Walton admitted drinking five beers before deciding to drive to his parents’ home.
Walton served with the Marines in Iraq.
