A Boulder man who vanished more than two weeks ago was found Tuesday night carrying a loaded handgun and a bottle of wine after knocking on a door for help.
James “Jim” McPhee, 34, who was reported missing Oct. 5 by his wife, knocked on a door in the 800 block of Seventh Street about 9:40 p.m., Boulder police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said.
McPhee asked for help, and the resident was able to disarm him without incident, Huntley said.
The resident called police, who arrived to find McPhee “disoriented” and lying on the ground.
McPhee was taken to Boulder Community Hospital, where he remained under medical care Wednesday.
Police said McPhee had no physical injuries.
He told investigators that he doesn’t remember anything after 4 p.m. Oct. 5.
He said he doesn’t know where he has been, where his car is or how he came to have the gun and the wine.
McPhee disappeared Oct. 5 after leaving his mother-in-law’s house to drop off DVDs at the Boulder Public Library on his way home. Investigators confirmed the DVDs were returned that afternoon.
His wife reported him missing after he failed to arrive home. The couple have two young children.
