BOULDER, Colo.—A Boulder man who disappeared after returning DVDs to a library more than two weeks ago is being evaluated at a hospital after showing up at a stranger’s home with a loaded gun and a half-full bottle of wine.

Boulder police say 34-year-old James McPhee knocked on the door of a home late Tuesday and asked for help. The resident took the gun without incident and called 911.

Officers later found McPhee on the ground, apparently disoriented and continuing to ask for help.

McPhee was last seen Oct. 5 when he left his mother-in-law’s Boulder home saying he was going to return some DVDs to the Boulder Public Library. Authorities determined the DVDs were returned, but there had been no sign of McPhee.

His black 1998 Town and Country minivan is still missing.
