One day, scientists will unlock that nugget of information that leads to a cure for breast cancer and so many other women’s cancers. Till then, there are fundraisers like Key To The Cure.
Saks Fifth Avenue not only recognized the urgency of it all 10 years ago but did something about it by joining with the Entertainment Industry Foundation to start this nationwide shopping and awareness-building event that has raised $28 million to date.
In addition, Saks Cherry Creek has for the past three years staged a celebrity mother-daughter fashion show and luncheon to benefit the Denver Health Foundation. This year it raised $47,000 for women in cancer treatment at Denver Health Medical Center.
It was also the largest, with 100 more guests than last year. Which precipitated a move from the second-floor designer salon to a more spacious location on the ground floor. Next year? “We’re thinking tent, outside,” said store manager Kay Cline.
The well-known mothers and daughters who walked the runway to Denise Plante’s commentary were Jeannie and Tally Ritter; Marilyn, Ashley and Christi Coors; Janet and Juju Elway; Dottie and Heather Lamm; Deana, Abby and Zoe Perlmutter; and Frances and Monica Owens.
Frances Owens chaired the event with help from a committee that included Jamie Angelich, Carolynn Bond, Yvette Pita Frampton, Danielle LaCabe, Evi Makovsky, Jenny Scholes and her mom, Dr. Elaine Scholes.
