DENVER—The vice presidential candidates are ceding the Colorado stage to their running mates.

Barack Obama announced Wednesday he will return to the Denver area on Sunday, two days after John McCain headlines a rally in Denver.

Both campaigns are picking up Colorado appearances as early voting begins. Vice presidential candidates Joe Biden and Sarah Palin have led rallies in Colorado this week, both urging supporters to vote early.

Polls indicate Obama is leading in Colorado, but the GOP insists the McCain campaign isn’t giving up on the state’s nine electoral votes. Obama hasn’t announced exactly where he’ll appear Sunday, only that it will be in the Denver area.

Obama officials also say Hillary Clinton will be in Aurora Friday to campaign for Obama.
