The National Trust for Historic Preservation is accepting online nominations for its 2009 list of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. This list highlights examples of the nation’s architectural, cultural and natural heritage at risk — like the pictured Statler Hilton Hotel in Dallas. Nominations are due on Dec. 5. HomeGoods opens in Aurora
Last weekend HomeGoods, the TJ Maxx sister store and one the few discount domains dedicated to home furnishings and accessories, opened a new 25,000 square-foot location at Cornerstar on Arapahoe Road and Parker Road in Aurora. A favorite of budget-minded designers and decorating hobbyists, HomeGoods offers a broad selection of stock from around the world at prices that are 20 to 60 percent off the suggested retail price. Regular store hours are Monday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; and Sunday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Fine-art bargains
Several paintings by historic, listed Colorado artists including 1890s watercolorist Charles Partridge Adams, mid-century muralist Ethel Magafan and the important 1950s abstract painter Charles Ragland Bunnell are just some of the highlights at the Mile High Bargain Art Fair this weekend at the Gilmore Art Center, 2119 Curtis St. The event also will feature original prints, watercolors and maps, some priced for as little as $2, and vintage oil paintings priced for as little as $25. Hours are: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.
