LAKEWOOD — Jeremiah Sirles, an offensive tackle at Bear Creek, orally committed to Nebraska on Friday.

A 6-foot-8, 300-pounder, Sirles has been receiving offers since his sophomore season but couldn’t pass up an opportunity to become a Cornhusker.

“It has great facilities, and I know we’re going to turn the program around,” Sirles said.

Sirles said he hopes to redshirt in order to adjust to college life.

He tore an ACL in the final regular-season game in 2007 but has played well throughout this season for the Bears (7-2), who will begin the Class 5A state playoffs next weekend.

Sirles has a 3.2 grade-point average and plans to major in business with an emphasis on sports management.

His final choices also included Oregon and Texas Tech.
