CHICAGO — Days after reporting a 33 percent drop in third-quarter profit, Gannett Co. said Tuesday it plans to lay off about 3,000 newspaper employees, or 10 percent of its workforce. Gannett plans to let the workers go by early December, according to a memo sent out Tuesday afternoon by Bob Dickey, head of the newspaper division.
