A woman is dead and three people, including two young girls, are injured after the woman’s SUV collided with a semitrailer hauling grain near Lucerne in Weld County.

The Colorado State Patrol says 27-year-old Melissa R. Nicklas of Eaton was driving an SUV that drifted from eastbound Colorado Highway 392 into the path of the westbound semitrailer around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. She died at the scene.

Four-year-old SUV passenger Peyton Nicklas was seriously injured, and 1-year-old SUV passenger Morgen Nicklas was critically injured.

Troopers say 30-year-old semitrailer driver Jorge Orocco-Sanchez of Firestone suffered undisclosed moderate injuries while rescuing the children from the burning SUV.
