A 68-year-old man was killed Tuesday after he drove off the right side of U.S. 40 in Jefferson County and his pickup truck hit an embankment and a tree, authorities say.
Richard Benavidez was taken to St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver on Tuesday afternoon, where he was later pronounced dead, said Trooper Ryan Sullivan, spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol.
Benavidez was driving a beige 2008 Nissan Titan west on U.S. 40 just after noon when he lost control and drove off the right side of the road, Sullivan said.
He was not wearing a seat belt.
