DENVER—An Evergreen man is dead after the pickup he was driving drifted off a highway and rolled over in Jefferson County.
The Colorado State Patrol says 68-year-old Richard Benavidez was westbound on U.S. 40 about 12:20 p.m. Tuesday when the Nissan Titan he was driving went off the right side of the road.
The truck hit an embankment and slammed into a tree, then went airborne and rolled.
Authorities say Benavidez was not wearing a seat belt and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver, where he later died.
U.S. 40 was closed for about 90 minutes during the investigation and cleanup.
Investigators say alcohol and drugs are not suspected as factors in the crash.
