Denver Catholic Charities Tuesday opened its newest Emergency Assistance Center at 1205 W. Byers Place near Interstate 25 and Alameda Avenue.
The centers offer food and assistance with rent, mortgage and utility payments, as well as other services. It is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
The new center is a consolidation of two that were closed this year because they were too small and inadequately located to handle increasing demand for services, spokesman Randy Weinert said.
At Tuesday’s open house, the program honored its longest-serving volunteers, five Sisters of Loretto: Benedicta “Bernie” Feeney, Marietta Goy, Kathleen O’Malley, Barbara Schulte and Rosemary Wilcox.
