COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The 4th Judicial District Attorney’s office has cleared a Colorado State Patrol trooper of wrongdoing in a crash that killed a man in Colorado Springs.

Sixty-three-year-old Jonathan Priest of Fountain died in the accident Sept. 17 after turning from northbound Colorado 85 into the path of Trooper Douglas Conrad, who was heading south on the road.

Witnesses had said it appeared Conrad was speeding as he chased a suspected drunk motorcycle driver in a marked patrol car. Prosecutors said Wednesday that Conrad was within the speed limit of 50 mph and had the right of way. Tests suggested Conrad was traveling about 49 mph at the time of the collision.
