The Denver coroner’s office said Wednesday that a woman who was found in a metal barrel Tuesday died of blunt-force injuries to the head.

The woman was the victim of a homicide, said Michelle Weiss-Samaras, Denver’s chief deputy coroner. Investigators have not identified the woman, who was found by a maintenance worker cleaning an alley.

Denver police revealed little about the discovery of the body at about 10 a.m. Tuesday between Arapahoe and Lawrence streets. The area four blocks south of Coors Field is frequented by transients and is close to two bus stations and the Denver Rescue Mission.

The barrel was found at the edge of a public parking lot, behind a plumbing-supply business and the Great Divide Brewing Co. Kirk Mitchell, The Denver Post
