Ball Corp., a Broomfield- based maker of metal and plastic packaging for food and beverages, said it will close beverage-packaging plants in Missouri and Puerto Rico that employ 250 people to reduce drink-can production.

The closings will result in a charge of $32 million after taxes, Ball said Thursday in a statement. About $28 million of the charge will be recorded in the fourth quarter.
