GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE, Cuba — A U.S. military judge has denied a prosecution team’s request to reassemble jurors at Guantanamo Bay to reconsider sentencing for Osama bin Laden’s driver.
Navy Capt. Keith Allred was the judge in the military trial of Salim Hamdan. He rejected Thursday a prosecution motion saying Hamdan should not receive trial credit for his time detained at Guantanamo as an “enemy combatant.” A U.S. military jury sentenced Hamdan to 5 1/2 years in prison, including five years and a month already served, at Guantanamo’s first war- crimes trial earlier this year. Hamdan is eligible for release by January.
