DENVER—Qwest employees represented by the Communications Workers of America union are getting more time to vote on a proposed four-year contract.

Mail ballots were initially to be counted Friday, but the union said Thursday it was giving members until Nov. 6 to return the ballots because some members reported delays in receiving them. The union plans to announce voting results Nov. 7.

The proposed contract covers about 20,000 Qwest Communications International Inc. workers in the 13 states of Colorado, Arizona, Iowa, Idaho, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

Denver-based Qwest is the primary telephone provider in 14 mostly Western states.
