The University of Denver hockey team had the luxury of playing its first six games at home, going 4-1-1 at Magness Arena. But now the No. 4-ranked Pioneers must shift venues and surfaces, playing today at No. 1 Colorado College’s Olympic-size ice at the Colorado Springs World Arena.
DU will step on the bigger ice surface — 15 feet wider than the NHL-standard sheet — for the first time this season during pregame warm-ups. After Friday’s 2-2 tie against CC at Magness Arena, Pioneers coach George Gwozdecky said his squad will not have a morning skate in Colorado Springs.
“I’m sure there will be an adjustment period, probably more so for (goalie) Marc Cheverie than our other guys. But we’ll see,” Gwozdecky said of the bigger sheet.
Footnotes.
DU freshman Luke Salazar had the game-tying goal that forced overtime Friday, extending his point streak to six games. He is the only Pioneer to score in every game.
