PLATTEVILLE — A bookkeeping error for a cemetery is forcing workers to relocate the caskets of three people.
Platteville Town Manager Nick Meier said the three caskets had to be moved after a clerk discovered the grave plots had been double-sold years ago. Meier says a clerk spotted the mistake because the town is switching the cemetery’s paper records to computer.
The family of Ronald Allen Pearl, who is buried at the Mizpah Cemetery, says they found out last month that he’d been moved. He had been buried there two years ago.
Pearl’s sister, Debbie Nelson, says the experience has been upsetting for the family, who had “been at peace because of the passage of time since Ronnie’s death.”
