Kyle Christensen’s two goals proved the difference as the University of Denver men’s soccer team topped visiting Sacramento State 3-1 on Sunday at Pioneer Field.
The Pioneers (8-5-2, 6-0-1) retained the top spot in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, 1 1/2 games ahead of second-place New Mexico (8-5-2, 4-2-0). Sacramento State dropped to 7-6-2, 2-4-0.
Christensen’s diving header for a goal put DU ahead 1-0 in the 34th minute. And his goal in the 84th minute, when he beat three defenders and the goalkeeper after an assist from Jarod Stigall, put the game out of reach.
• San Jose State’s Nick Cukar scored the game-winning goal in the 37th minute and goalkeeper Richard Mann earned his second shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory over host Air Force (4-11-0, 2-5-0) in an MPSF game at Cadet Soccer Stadium. San Jose State improved to 6-5-4, 2-4-1.
• Logan Boccard’s overtime goal in the 97th minute gave Colorado College (13-4-1, 6-1-1) a 1-0 victory over Hendrix College (4-11-0, 1-8-0) in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game at Washburn Field in Colorado Springs. It was the Tigers’ home finale.
Prep guard commits to CSU.
Devin McDonald, a 6-foot-1 point guard from Houston who plays for San Jacinto Community College (Texas), will sign a basketball letter of intent with Colorado State, according to .
McDonald averaged 13.1 points, seven rebounds and four assists. He originally signed out of high school with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and is a former AAU teammate of current Rams player Josh Simmons.

Pioneers lose Sun Belt volleyball match.
The Arkansas-Little Rock volleyball team defeated visiting Denver in four games, 25-23, 26-28, 25-22, 25-18, in a Sun Belt Conference match. The Pioneers (21-5, 10-3) stayed a game ahead of UALR (22-6, 11-4) in the SBC. The Pioneers continue their road swing Thursday at New Orleans.
