SILVERTHORNE, Colo.—This Joe the Plumber says he’s not voting for either John McCain or Barack Obama, or anybody else for that matter.
Joe Welk of Countywide Plumbing and Heating Inc. in the mountain town of Silverthorne says he’s trying to stay neutral in politics and doesn’t plan to vote this year. He says he doesn’t even like to talk about it because conversations about candidates are rarely civil.
Welk has been hearing a lot of “Joe the Plumber” references since Ohio plumber Samuel “Joe” Wurzelbacher became a symbol in the debate between Republican McCain and Democrat Obama over whose tax policy is better for small businesses.
Welk, who co-founded his company in 2005 with his father, Mike, says he’s going to have to pay taxes no matter who’s elected.
He says, “I’m just ready for this election to be over.”
