NEW YORK — The Empire State Building is divided, politically. The iconic skyscraper illuminated its tower in blue and red Tuesday night, representing, respectively, Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama and Republican candidate John McCain.
The winner’s color would light the entire tower. The red-blue split will stay for as long as the result remains in doubt.
The tower lights frequently have a theme. The first election lighting signaled Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt’s win in 1932.
