The speed limit on I-25 through a portion of Colorado Springs is going up, from 55 to 65 mph.
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will raise the speed limit on the interstate between Briargate Parkway and the Nevada Avenue/Tejon Street exchange within the next few weeks, according to the highway department.
The higher speed limit comes in the wake of highway improvements, and the higher limit reflects current speeds being used on the section of highway, CDOT said in a news release.
“The existing speed limit was established on a roadway that had different characteristics than the reconstructed highway that we’re driving on today,” said CDOT Traffic Engineer Sasan Delshad.
Raising the speed limit “could improve the safety of the highway,” Delshad said in the statement.
New speed limit signs are expected to be installed in early December. The current speed limits north of Briargate (75 mph) and south of Nevada/Tejon to Academy Boulevard (65 mph) will remain the same, the highway department said.
