Avalanche captain Joe Sakic left practice early today because of a strained back.
Sakic went to the locker room about 20 minutes into practice and did not return to the ice. Coach Tony Granato said afterward it was a precautionary move and he thinks Sakic is “OK.”
Sakic, 39, has two goals and 10 assists in 12 games this season. The Avs next play Thursday against Minnesota.
