GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Garfield County Human Services officials say a computer disk with about 270 Social Security numbers on it is missing, but they say it would be hard to match the numbers to any names.

County human services director Lynn Renick said Wednesday there’s “very little risk, if any” of the data being accessible. She says her department sent out notices to 7,000 people whose names were on the disk as a precaution.

She says the 267 Social Security numbers were raw data and would be hard to locate on the disk, much less tie to a name.

Renick says an employee lost the disk after taking it home. She says she can’t discuss any disciplinary action because it’s a personnel issue.
