FORT COLLINS, Colo.—A Fort Collins man could be released from prison in a little over a year after a judge handed down a six year sentence in the stabbing of an unarmed man.
The father of Joey Martell expressed anger at what he said was a light, unjust sentenced given to Adrian Allen, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
During a hearing Wednesday amid tight security, District Judge Jolene Blair told Michael Martell that neither Allen’s acquittal nor a life sentence would serve justice.
Allen’s attorneys say the stabbing of Joey Martell in August 2007 was in self defense after Martell threatened to attack homosexuals. Allen and Martell had just met at a bar and a group had gone to Allen’s apartment.
