ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Democrats have gained another foot soldier in Congress: Democrat Frank Kratovil has won an open seat in the U.S. House from Maryland’s 1st District.
He claimed a seat held for 18 years by the GOP, beating Republican Andy Harris by about 2,000 votes.
Meanwhile, in Washington state, Republican U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert has beaten back a challenge from Democrat Darcy Burner for a second time.
The victories give Democrats 255 House seats, to 174 for the GOP, with six seats still undecided. Democrats have picked up 20 seats.
