DENVER—Luke Salazar scored twice and Marc Cheverie made 34 saves as Denver defeated Minnesota Duluth 5-1 Friday night.
Both of Salazar’s goals came in the first period, and Rhett Rakhshani added a goal to put the Pioneers ahead 3-0.
Minnesota Duluth’s Michael Gergen answered in the second period, scoring his first goal of the season at the 7:29 mark.
But Jesse Martin and Tyler Bozak came back for the Pioneers (5-2-1, 3-1-1 WCHA), making the score 5-1.
Neither team scored in the third period.
Alex Stalock was the goaltender for most of the game for the Bulldogs (4-2-2, 1-2-1). Stalock stopped 19 of 24 shots before being replace after two periods by freshman Brady Hjelle.
